We learned this proverb on the first day of Yoruba class in Nigeria. It means we don’t make fun or abuse people to their face. It would be extremely rude to count a man’s 9 toes right in front of him.
As we have been trekking through campus going from department to department on a journey for library cards, ID cards and the like, we naturally meet a lot of new people. It usually happens that one of us ends up talking more than others. The people we greet assume the others can’t speak Yoruba as well as the one talking and then say that to us to our face. Now we have a comeback to put them in their place and show we actually do know Yoruba dáaáaa (very well).
hey ya! Just read the entire blog because google earth pro is not available for my remote sensing lab today. I guess the license has expired and no administrators are around to fix it. So I woke up for my eleven am lab the day after eric’s birthday fortunately to read your entire blog. Last night was amazing, eric sang milkshake at the old fashioned for karakoe night and then did the next song which was Under the Sea with Jordan, hilarious. Eric puked shortly after. Liza and I went to a comedy show before hand and actually went out the night before too. We have been going out a lot over the week. Things have been exciting and school has been going really well. Data Analysis is excruciating one day a week for two hours but I am learning every square inch of the environmental Species Act, specifically the indiana bat. Remote sensing is cool but getting tougher and women’s Asian American writing is not bad at all. The housing situation is good, really expensive AC bill though, so we’re done with it. Obama is coming to speak here on tuesday and ben harper is opening! Its the first day of fall today, but the leaves have been dropping for about twop weeks now. Hopefully it’s a mild winter, my MG&E operatr does not believe this will be true though.
Cara,
I love the Owes. And the video to campus…fab! You rock!
Hugs,
Michele
You wouldn’t happen to be one that talks more than others would you?!
Loves,
Michele
No, surprisingly not actually! I’m the second most frequent talker.
