A tortuous trip to Lagos and back in one day resulted in every transportation company informing us that is impossible for us to enter Ghana. Under our time constraints we could not acquire Ghanaian visas. No one had a concrete answer for us about whether we needed one visa, two visas, zero visas. The whole trip ti jasipabo (has fell apart/been ruined). So we are depressed and back in Ibadan. If you are an American traveling around west Africa, I advise you acquire your visas ahead of time or travel alone or in small groups. From what we’ve been told, it is impossible for us to get Ghana visas in Nigeria because we are not Nigerian. I don’t think it would be hard to travel throughout this area if you were alone however. Much of the problem, I think, lies in the fact that we are five whites traveling together. Some of the companies said that if we were one or two the driver could sort out the necessary payments at each border, but five people is just too many. Hopefully I will get to Ghana someday but I have no idea how or when. For now, we will resort to Plan B: traveling around Yorubaland, which has potential to be equally as fun holiday as Ghana. It’s a plus that we already speak the language anyway. After all, mama agba (my grandmother) said to me this morning, “In every disappointment lies a blessing.” I like to look at life from this perspective.

Titi and the group,
E pele o! inu mi dun wipe e ko lo si Ghana laini visa lowo. Wahala ti eba ko si ko ba ti poju adun lati ri Ghana lo.
it is better that you did not leave your fate in the hand of the drivers with regards to the issue of visa. What they probably would have done is to bribe the border officials to get you into Ghana. But in the event that anything happens within Ghana that sheds spotlight on you, you will suddenly be tagged as illegal alien and that may create more problem than you realize. Afterall the same border patrol that would have been bribed at the border may tip off another group who may come after you within Ghana. So dont do it! I suggest to go to the Ghanian embassy directly and seek advice.
All the best!
I just realised you guys are the same students that did a skit a little over a year ago. I came across the video back then. I saw the one of ‘omo oba’ and awon ojogbon. I must say your Yoruba has really improved. Well done and thumbs up to you guys. E ku ise.
Oh e pele, sorry about your trip being cancelled. I was actually looking forward to reading your Ghana adventure. Don’t worry, there is always another time. I’m sure if you guys decide to go around Yoruba land, you’ll enjoy it.
Cara I am sorry that your plans did not pan out. I have not heard anything from Kevin…please tell me he did not decide to go alone. Make the best of the time you have before classes start!
How upsetting! but from what i know, if you’re not nigerian and you have residence/student visa in naij, you can easily get a visa for ghana without much problems. I know sum1… i’ll ask and keep you posted. :)…P.S. Abuja is nice and fun. BTW why don’t you speak with your consulate they probably have the answers anyway
Oh, I’m really disappointed! But Titi, Ghana didn’t failed… You failed đŸ˜€
Sorry to hear about the failure of your Ghana endeavour. If you can, take a trip to Ife, Ilesha, Osogbo, Ilorin, Akungba and some other fun parts of Yorubaland.
Toju ara e o.
